How To Install menhir on Debian 9
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install menhir
on Debian 9.
What is menhir
menhir is:
Menhir is a LR(1) parser generator for OCaml. It is mostly compatible with the standard ocamlyacc and has the following enhancements:
- it accepts LR(1) grammars,
- it offers parameterized nonterminal symbols as well as a library of standard definitions,
- it explains conflicts in terms of the grammar,
- it allows grammar specifications to be split over multiple files and parametrized by OCaml modules,
- it produces reentrant parsers.
There are three methods to install menhir
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install menhir Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install menhir
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install menhir
Install menhir Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install menhir
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install menhir
Install menhir Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install menhir
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install menhir
How To Uninstall menhir on Debian 9
To uninstall only the menhir
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove menhir
Uninstall menhir And Its Dependencies
To uninstall menhir
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove menhir
Remove menhir Configurations and Data
To remove menhir
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge menhir
Remove menhir configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove menhir
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge menhir
