What is menhir

menhir is:

Menhir is a LR(1) parser generator for OCaml. It is mostly compatible with the standard ocamlyacc and has the following enhancements:

  • it accepts LR(1) grammars,
  • it offers parameterized nonterminal symbols as well as a library of standard definitions,
  • it explains conflicts in terms of the grammar,
  • it allows grammar specifications to be split over multiple files and parametrized by OCaml modules,
  • it produces reentrant parsers.

There are three methods to install menhir on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install menhir Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install menhir using apt-get by running the following command:

How To Uninstall menhir on Debian 9

To uninstall only the menhir package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove menhir

To uninstall menhir and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove menhir

To remove menhir configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge menhir
