How To Install mediainfo-gui on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install mediainfo-gui on Kali Linux.
What is mediainfo-gui
mediainfo-gui is:
MediaInfo is a utility used for retrieving technical information and other metadata about audio or video files.
A non-exhaustive list of the information MediaInfo can retrieve from media files include:
- General: title, author, director, album, track number, date, duration…
- Video: codec, aspect, fps, bitrate…
- Audio: codec, sample rate, channels, language, bitrate…
- Text: language of subtitle
- Chapters: number of chapters, list of chapters
MediaInfo supports the following formats:
- Video: MKV, OGM, AVI, DivX, WMV, QuickTime, Real, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DVD (VOB)…
- Video Codecs: DivX, XviD, MSMPEG4, ASP, H.264, AVC…)
- Audio: OGG, MP3, WAV, RA, AC3, DTS, AAC, M4A, AU, AIFF…
- Subtitles: SRT, SSA, ASS, SAMI…
This package contains the graphical user interface.
There are three methods to install mediainfo-gui on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install mediainfo-gui Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install mediainfo-gui using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install mediainfo-guiInstall mediainfo-gui Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install mediainfo-gui using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install mediainfo-guiInstall mediainfo-gui Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install mediainfo-gui using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install mediainfo-guiHow To Uninstall mediainfo-gui on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the mediainfo-gui package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove mediainfo-guiUninstall mediainfo-gui And Its Dependencies
To uninstall mediainfo-gui and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove mediainfo-guiRemove mediainfo-gui Configurations and Data
To remove mediainfo-gui configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge mediainfo-guiRemove mediainfo-gui configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove mediainfo-gui configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge mediainfo-guiDependencies
