What is maxima-emacs

maxima-emacs is:

Maxima is a fully symbolic computation program. It is full featured doing symbolic manipulation of polynomials, matrices, rational functions, integration, Todd-coxeter methods for finite group analysis, graphing, multiple precision floating point computation. It has a symbolic source level debugger for maxima code. Maxima is based on the original Macsyma developed at MIT in the 1970s. It is quite reliable, and has good garbage collection, and no memory leaks. It comes with hundreds of self tests.

This package contains a tradition emacs interface, together with a newer imaxima interface supporting inline imaging and HTML export under a specialized imath mode.

There are three methods to install maxima-emacs on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install maxima-emacs Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo apt-get -y purge maxima-emacs

We can use the following command to remove maxima-emacs configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
