How To Install maq on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install maq on Kali Linux.
What is maq
maq is:
Maq (short for Mapping and Assembly with Quality) builds mapping assemblies from short reads generated by the next-generation sequencing machines. It was particularly designed for Illumina-Solexa 1G Genetic Analyzer, and has a preliminary functionality to handle ABI SOLiD data. Maq is previously known as mapass2.
Developmemt of Maq stopped in 2008. Its successors are BWA and SAMtools.
There are three methods to install maq on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install maq Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install maq using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install maqInstall maq Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install maq using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install maqInstall maq Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install maq using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install maqHow To Uninstall maq on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the maq package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove maqUninstall maq And Its Dependencies
To uninstall maq and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove maqRemove maq Configurations and Data
To remove maq configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge maqRemove maq configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove maq configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge maqDependencies
