How To Install maptool on Kali Linux

In this tutorial we learn how to install maptool
on Kali Linux.
What is maptool
maptool is:
Navit is a car navigation system with routing engine.
Its modular design is capable of using vector maps of various formats for routing and rendering of the displayed map. It’s even possible to use multiple maps at a time.
This package contains maptool, a tool to convert OpenStreetMap maps to the Navit format.
Note that maptool is only built on 64bit architectures.
There are three methods to install maptool
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install maptool Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install maptool
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install maptool

After updating apt database, We can install maptool
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install maptool
Install maptool Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install maptool
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install maptool
How To Uninstall maptool on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the maptool
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove maptool

To uninstall maptool
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove maptool
Remove maptool Configurations and Data
To remove maptool
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge maptool
