Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install makeself
on Rocky Linux 8.
What is makeself
makeself.sh is a shell script that generates a self-extractable tar.gz archive from a directory. The resulting file appears as a shell script, and can be launched as is. The archive will then uncompress itself to a temporary directory and an arbitrary command will be executed (for example an installation script). This is pretty similar to archives generated with WinZip Self-Extractor in the Windows world.
We can use yum
or dnf
to install makeself
on Rocky Linux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install makeself.

Update yum database with dnf
using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install makeself
using dnf
by running the following command:
