In this tutorial we learn how to install makeself on AlmaLinux 8.
What is makeself
makeself.sh is a shell script that generates a self-extractable tar.gz archive from a directory. The resulting file appears as a shell script, and can be launched as is. The archive will then uncompress itself to a temporary directory and an arbitrary command will be executed (for example an installation script). This is pretty similar to archives generated with WinZip Self-Extractor in the Windows world.
We can use yum or dnf to install makeself on AlmaLinux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install makeself.
Install makeself on AlmaLinux 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install makeself using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install makeself
Install makeself on AlmaLinux 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install makeself using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install makeself
How To Uninstall makeself on AlmaLinux 8
To uninstall only the makeself package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove makeself
