How To Install mailutils-mda on Kali Linux

In this tutorial we learn how to install mailutils-mda on Kali Linux.

What is mailutils-mda

mailutils-mda is:

GNU Mailutils is a rich and powerful protocol-independent mail framework. It contains a series of useful mail libraries, clients, and servers.

This package contains the GNU mailutils’ MDA tools: mda, putmail and lmtpd. It is capable of speaking POP3, IMAP, mbox, MH, Maildir and dotmail.

mda – the GNU local mail delivery agent. putmail – incorporate mail to a mailbox. lmtpd – local mail transfer protocol daemon.

There are three methods to install mailutils-mda on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install mailutils-mda Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install mailutils-mda using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install mailutils-mda

Install mailutils-mda Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install mailutils-mda using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install mailutils-mda

Install mailutils-mda Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install mailutils-mda using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install mailutils-mda

How To Uninstall mailutils-mda on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the mailutils-mda package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove mailutils-mda

Uninstall mailutils-mda And Its Dependencies

To uninstall mailutils-mda and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove mailutils-mda

Remove mailutils-mda Configurations and Data

To remove mailutils-mda configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge mailutils-mda

Remove mailutils-mda configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove mailutils-mda configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
