What is lzo

LZO is a portable lossless data compression library written in ANSI C. It offers pretty fast compression and very fast decompression. Decompression requires no memory. In addition there are slower compression levels achieving a quite competitive compression ratio while still decompressing at this very high speed.

We can use yum or dnf to install lzo on Rocky Linux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install lzo.

Install lzo on Rocky Linux 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install lzo using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install lzo

Install lzo on Rocky Linux 8 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install lzo using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install lzo

How To Uninstall lzo on Rocky Linux 8

To uninstall only the lzo package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove lzo
