How To Install lzma-alone on Kali Linux

What is lzma-alone

lzma-alone is:

The Lempel-Ziv-Markov chain Algorithm is a compression method based on the famous LZ77 algorithm, and was first introduced by 7-Zip for use in 7z archives.

Its main characteristics are a very high compression ratio, with high RAM usage, and fast decompression, with low RAM usage. These properties make it well suited to embedded uses, such as for ROM (firmware) compression.

This package provides only the old lzma_alone compression utility, which has an interface more like that of zip.

There are three methods to install lzma-alone on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install lzma-alone Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install lzma-alone using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install lzma-alone

Install lzma-alone Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install lzma-alone using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install lzma-alone

Install lzma-alone Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install lzma-alone using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install lzma-alone

How To Uninstall lzma-alone on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the lzma-alone package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove lzma-alone

Uninstall lzma-alone And Its Dependencies

To uninstall lzma-alone and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove lzma-alone

Remove lzma-alone Configurations and Data

To remove lzma-alone configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge lzma-alone
