What is ltrace

Ltrace is a debugging program which runs a specified command until the command exits. While the command is executing, ltrace intercepts and records both the dynamic library calls called by the executed process and the signals received by the executed process. Ltrace can also intercept and print system calls executed by the process. You should install ltrace if you need a sysadmin tool for tracking the execution of processes.

We can use yum or dnf to install ltrace on AlmaLinux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install ltrace.

Install ltrace on AlmaLinux 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install ltrace using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install ltrace

Install ltrace on AlmaLinux 8 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install ltrace using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install ltrace

How To Uninstall ltrace on AlmaLinux 8

To uninstall only the ltrace package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove ltrace
