How To Install llvm-8 on Ubuntu 18.04

What is llvm-8
llvm-8 is:
LLVM is a collection of libraries and tools that make it easy to build compilers, optimizers, just-in-time code generators, and many other compiler-related programs.
LLVM uses a single, language-independent virtual instruction set both as an offline code representation (to communicate code between compiler phases and to run-time systems) and as the compiler internal representation (to analyze and transform programs). This persistent code representation allows a common set of sophisticated compiler techniques to be applied at compile-time, link-time, install-time, run-time, or “idle-time” (between program runs).
The strengths of the LLVM infrastructure are its extremely simple design (which makes it easy to understand and use), source-language independence, powerful mid-level optimizer, automated compiler debugging support, extensibility, and its stability and reliability. LLVM is currently being used to host a wide variety of academic research projects and commercial projects. LLVM includes C and C++ front-ends, a front-end for a Forth-like language (Stacker), a young scheme front-end, and Java support is in development. LLVM can generate code for X86, SparcV9, PowerPC or many other architectures.
There are three methods to install llvm-8 on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install llvm-8 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install llvm-8 using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install llvm-8
Install llvm-8 Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install llvm-8 using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install llvm-8
Install llvm-8 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install llvm-8 using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install llvm-8
How To Uninstall llvm-8 on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the llvm-8 package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove llvm-8
Uninstall llvm-8 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall llvm-8 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove llvm-8
Remove llvm-8 Configurations and Data
To remove llvm-8 configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge llvm-8
Remove llvm-8 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove llvm-8 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge llvm-8
