How To Install libxine2 on Ubuntu 18.04

What is libxine2

This is the xine media player library (libxine).
Libxine provides the complete infrastructure for a video/media player. It supports MPEG 1/2 and some AVI and Quicktime videos out of the box, so you can use it to play DVDs, (S)VCDs and most video files out there. It supports network streams, subtitles and even MP3 or Ogg files. It’s extensible to your heart’s content via plugins for audio and video output, input media, demuxers (stream types), audio/video and subtitle codecs.
While this package does not provide a GUI, building a user-interface frontend around this should be quite easy. The xine-ui and gxine packages each provide one for your convenience.
There are three methods to install libxine2 on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libxine2 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libxine2 using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libxine2
Install libxine2 Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libxine2 using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libxine2
Install libxine2 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libxine2 using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libxine2
How To Uninstall libxine2 on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the libxine2 package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libxine2
Uninstall libxine2 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libxine2 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libxine2
Remove libxine2 Configurations and Data
To remove libxine2 configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libxine2
Remove libxine2 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libxine2 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libxine2
