The Xapian search engine library is a highly adaptable toolkit which allows developers to easily add advanced indexing and search facilities to their own applications. It implements the probabilistic model of information retrieval, and provides facilities for performing ranked free-text searches, relevance feedback, phrase searching, boolean searching, stemming, and simultaneous update and searching. It is highly scalable, and is capable of working with collections containing hundreds of millions of documents.
The Xapian Java bindings provide an interface to the Xapian library from Java, allowing both indexing and retrieval operations.
This package contains the architecture-independent part of the Xapian Java bindings.
There are three methods to install libxapian-java
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libxapian-java Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libxapian-java
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libxapian-java

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libxapian-java
using apt

sudo apt -y install libxapian-java
Install libxapian-java Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libxapian-java
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libxapian-java
How To Uninstall libxapian-java on Debian 9
To uninstall only the libxapian-java
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libxapian-java
Uninstall libxapian-java And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libxapian-java
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libxapian-java
Remove libxapian-java Configurations and Data
To remove libxapian-java
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libxapian-java
