How To Install libvlc-dev on Kali Linux

In this tutorial we learn how to install libvlc-dev on Kali Linux.
What is libvlc-dev
libvlc-dev is:
This package contains headers and a static library required to build standalone applications that use VLC features.
VLC is the VideoLAN project’s media player. It plays MPEG, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, MOV, WMV, QuickTime, WebM, FLAC, MP3, Ogg/Vorbis files, DVDs, VCDs, podcasts, and multimedia streams from various network sources.
There are three methods to install libvlc-dev on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libvlc-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install libvlc-dev using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libvlc-devInstall libvlc-dev Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install libvlc-dev using apt by running the following command:

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install libvlc-dev using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libvlc-devHow To Uninstall libvlc-dev on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the libvlc-dev package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libvlc-devUninstall libvlc-dev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libvlc-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libvlc-devRemove libvlc-dev Configurations and Data
To remove libvlc-dev configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libvlc-devRemove libvlc-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
