How To Install libva-dev on Debian 9

on Debian 9.
What is libva-dev
libva-dev is:
Video Acceleration API (VA API) is a library (“libVA”) and API specification which enables and provides access to graphics hardware (GPU) acceleration for video processing on Linux and UNIX based operating systems. Accelerated processing includes video decoding, video encoding, subpicture blending and rendering. The specification was originally designed by Intel for its GMA (Graphics Media Accelerator) series of GPU hardware, the API is however not limited to GPUs or Intel specific hardware, as other hardware and manufacturers can also freely use this API for hardware accelerated video decoding.
This package provides the development environment for libva.
There are three methods to install libva-dev
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libva-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libva-dev
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libva-dev
Install libva-dev Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libva-dev
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libva-dev
Install libva-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libva-dev
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libva-dev
How To Uninstall libva-dev on Debian 9
To uninstall only the libva-dev
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libva-dev
Uninstall libva-dev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libva-dev
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libva-dev
Remove libva-dev Configurations and Data
To remove libva-dev
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libva-dev
Remove libva-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libva-dev
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libva-dev
