How To Install libuv1 on Debian 12
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libuv1
on Debian 12.
What is libuv1
libuv1 is:
Libuv is the asynchronous library behind Node.js. Very similar to libevent or libev, it provides the main elements for event driven systems: watching and waiting for availability in a set of sockets, and some other events like timers or asynchronous messages. However, libuv also comes with some other extras like:
- files watchers and asynchronous operations
- a portable TCP and UDP API, as well as asynchronous DNS resolution
- processes and threads management, and a portable inter-process communications mechanism, with pipes and work queues
- a plugins mechanism for loading libraries dynamically
- interface with external libraries that also need to access the I/O.
This package includes the dynamic library against which you can link your program.
There are three methods to install libuv1
on Debian 12. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libuv1 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libuv1
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libuv1

Update apt database with apt

sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libuv1
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libuv1
Install libuv1 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libuv1
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libuv1
How To Uninstall libuv1 on Debian 12
To uninstall only the libuv1
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libuv1
Uninstall libuv1 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libuv1
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 12, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libuv1
Remove libuv1 Configurations and Data
To remove libuv1
configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libuv1
Remove libuv1 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
