How To Install libuuid on AlmaLinux 8
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libuuid
on AlmaLinux 8.
What is libuuid
This is the universally unique ID library, part of util-linux. The libuuid library generates and parses 128-bit universally unique id’s (UUID’s). A UUID is an identifier that is unique across both space and time, with respect to the space of all UUIDs. A UUID can be used for multiple purposes, from tagging objects with an extremely short lifetime, to reliably identifying very persistent objects across a network. See also the “uuid” package, which is a separate implementation.
We can use yum
or dnf
to install libuuid
on AlmaLinux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install libuuid.
Install libuuid on AlmaLinux 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf
using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install libuuid
using dnf
by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install libuuid
Install libuuid on AlmaLinux 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum
using the following command.
sudo yum makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install libuuid
using yum
by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install libuuid
How To Uninstall libuuid on AlmaLinux 8
To uninstall only the libuuid
package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove libuuid
