In this tutorial we learn how to install libtcplay on Kali Linux.

What is libtcplay

libtcplay is:

tcplay is a free (BSD-licensed), pretty much fully featured (including multiple keyfiles, cipher cascades, etc) and stable TrueCrypt implementation.

This implementation supports mapping (opening) both system and normal TrueCrypt volumes, as well as opening hidden volumes and opening an outer volume while protecting a hidden volume. There is also support to create volumes, including hidden volumes, etc.

Since tcplay uses dm-crypt it makes full use of any available hardware encryption/decryption support once the volume has been mapped.

There are three methods to install libtcplay on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libtcplay Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libtcplay using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libtcplay

Install libtcplay Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install libtcplay using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install libtcplay

Install libtcplay Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libtcplay using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libtcplay

How To Uninstall libtcplay on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the libtcplay package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libtcplay

Uninstall libtcplay And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libtcplay and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libtcplay

Remove libtcplay Configurations and Data

To remove libtcplay configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libtcplay

Remove libtcplay configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove libtcplay configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libtcplay
