How To Install libstb-dev on Ubuntu 20.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install libstb-dev
on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is libstb-dev
libstb-dev is:
It includes the following modules:
- stb_vorbis.c: decode ogg vorbis files from file/memory to float/16-bit signed output
- stb_image.h: image loading/decoding from file/memory: JPG, PNG, TGA, BMP, PSD, GIF, HDR, PIC
- stb_truetype.h: parse, decode, and rasterize characters from truetype fonts
- stb_image_write.h: image writing to disk: PNG, TGA, BMP
- stb_image_resize.h: resize images larger/smaller with good quality
- stb_rect_pack.h: simple 2D rectangle packer with decent quality
- stb_sprintf.h: fast sprintf, snprintf for C/C++
- stretchy_buffer.h: typesafe dynamic array for C (i.e. approximation to vector<>), doesn’t compile as C++
- stb_textedit.h: guts of a text editor for games etc implementing them from scratch
- stb_voxel_render.h: Minecraft-esque voxel rendering “engine” with many more features
- stb_dxt.h: Fabian “ryg” Giesen’s real-time DXT compressor
- stb_perlin.h: revised Perlin noise (3D input, 1D output)

There are three methods to install libstb-dev
on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get

Install libstb-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libstb-dev

After updating apt database, We can install libstb-dev
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libstb-dev
Install libstb-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libstb-dev
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libstb-dev
How To Uninstall libstb-dev on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the libstb-dev
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libstb-dev
Uninstall libstb-dev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libstb-dev
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libstb-dev
Remove libstb-dev Configurations and Data
To remove libstb-dev
configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libstb-dev
Remove libstb-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libstb-dev
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
