How To Install libssm1 on Ubuntu 18.04

What is libssm1
libssm1 is:
SSM is a macromolecular coordinate superposition library, written by Eugene Krissinel of the EBI.
The library implements the SSM algorithm of protein structure comparison in three dimensions, which includes an original procedure of matching graphs built on the protein’s secondary-structure elements, followed by an iterative three-dimensional alignment of protein backbone Calpha atoms.
The algorithm implemented by the software is described in: E. Krissinel & K. Henrick (2004) Secondary-structure matching (SSM), a new tool for fast protein structure alignment in three dimensions. Acta Crystallogr D Biol Crystallogr. 60, 2256-68.
This package contains the shared library components needed for programs that have been compiled with the ssm library.
There are three methods to install libssm1 on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libssm1 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libssm1 using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libssm1
Install libssm1 Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libssm1 using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libssm1
Install libssm1 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libssm1 using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libssm1
How To Uninstall libssm1 on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the libssm1 package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libssm1
Uninstall libssm1 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libssm1 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libssm1
Remove libssm1 Configurations and Data
To remove libssm1 configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libssm1
Remove libssm1 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libssm1 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libssm1
