How To Install libsox2 on Debian 9
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libsox2
on Debian 9.
What is libsox2
libsox2 is:
SoX is the swiss army knife of sound processing.
This package contains the SoX library which enables to convert various formats of computer audio files in to other formats. It also allows you to apply various effects to sound files.
Any format support requires at least libsox-fmt-base. Sound card I/O requires libsox-fmt-alsa, libsox-fmt-ao, libsox-fmt-oss or libsox-fmt-pulse.
There are three methods to install libsox2
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libsox2 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libsox2
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libsox2

After updating apt database, We can install libsox2
using apt

Install libsox2 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude

sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libsox2
using aptitude

sudo aptitude -y install libsox2
How To Uninstall libsox2 on Debian 9
To uninstall only the libsox2
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libsox2
Uninstall libsox2 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libsox2
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libsox2
Remove libsox2 Configurations and Data
To remove libsox2
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libsox2
Remove libsox2 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
