How To Install libsodium on Rocky Linux 8
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libsodium
on Rocky Linux 8.
What is libsodium
Sodium is a new, easy-to-use software library for encryption, decryption, signatures, password hashing and more. It is a portable, cross-compilable, installable, packageable fork of NaCl, with a compatible API, and an extended API to improve usability even further. Its goal is to provide all of the core operations needed to build higher-level cryptographic tools. The design choices emphasize security, and “magic constants” have clear rationales. The same cannot be said of NIST curves, where the specific origins of certain constants are not described by the standards. And despite the emphasis on higher security, primitives are faster across-the-board than most implementations of the NIST standards.
We can use yum
or dnf
to install libsodium
on Rocky Linux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install libsodium.
Install libsodium on Rocky Linux 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf
using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install libsodium
using dnf
by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install libsodium
Install libsodium on Rocky Linux 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum
using the following command.
sudo yum makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install libsodium
using yum
by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install libsodium
How To Uninstall libsodium on Rocky Linux 8
To uninstall only the libsodium
package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove libsodium
