What is libsndfile

libsndfile is a C library for reading and writing sound files such as AIFF, AU, WAV, and others through one standard interface. It can currently read/write 8, 16, 24 and 32-bit PCM files as well as 32 and 64-bit floating point WAV files and a number of compressed formats. It compiles and runs on *nix, MacOS, and Win32.

We can use yum or dnf to install libsndfile on AlmaLinux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install libsndfile.

Install libsndfile on AlmaLinux 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install libsndfile using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install libsndfile

Install libsndfile on AlmaLinux 8 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install libsndfile using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install libsndfile

How To Uninstall libsndfile on AlmaLinux 8

To uninstall only the libsndfile package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove libsndfile
