How To Install libsnappy-jni on Kali Linux

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install libsnappy-jni on Kali Linux.

What is libsnappy-jni

libsnappy-jni is:

Java port of Snappy, a fast compresser/decompresser written in C++, originally developed by Google.

Snappy’s main target is very high-speed compression/decompression with reasonable compression size. So the compression ratio of snappy-java is modest and about the same as LZF (ranging 20%-100% according to the dataset).

This package contains the architecture specific Java native interface part.

There are three methods to install libsnappy-jni on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libsnappy-jni Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libsnappy-jni using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libsnappy-jni

Install libsnappy-jni Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install libsnappy-jni using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install libsnappy-jni

Install libsnappy-jni Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libsnappy-jni using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libsnappy-jni

How To Uninstall libsnappy-jni on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the libsnappy-jni package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libsnappy-jni

Uninstall libsnappy-jni And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libsnappy-jni and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libsnappy-jni
