What is libsasl2-2

libsasl2-2 is:

This is the Cyrus SASL API implementation, version 2.1.

SASL is the Simple Authentication and Security Layer, a method for adding authentication support to connection-based protocols. To use SASL, a protocol includes a command for identifying and authenticating a user to a server and for optionally negotiating protection of subsequent protocol interactions. If its use is negotiated, a security layer is inserted between the protocol and the connection. See RFC 2222 for more information.

Any of: ANONYMOUS, CRAM-MD5, DIGEST-MD5, GSSAPI (MIT or Heimdal Kerberos 5), NTLM, OTP, PLAIN, or LOGIN can be used.

There are three methods to install libsasl2-2 on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libsasl2-2 Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libsasl2-2 using apt-get by running the following command:

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libsasl2-2 using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libsasl2-2

How To Uninstall libsasl2-2 on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the libsasl2-2 package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libsasl2-2

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libsasl2-2

sudo apt-get -y purge libsasl2-2
