In this tutorial we learn how to install libsane1 on Kali Linux.

What is libsane1

libsane1 is:

SANE stands for “Scanner Access Now Easy” and is an application programming interface (API) that provides standardized access to any raster image scanner hardware (flatbed scanner, hand-held scanner, video- and still-cameras, frame-grabbers, etc.). The SANE standard is free and its discussion and development are open to everybody. The current source code is written to support several operating systems, including GNU/Linux, OS/2, Win32 and various Unices and is available under the GNU General Public License (commercial applications and backends are welcome, too, however).

Graphical frontends for sane are available in the packages sane and xsane. Command line frontend scanimage, saned and sane-find-scanner are available in the sane-utils package.

There are three methods to install libsane1 on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libsane1 Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libsane1 using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libsane1

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install libsane1 using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install libsane1

Install libsane1 Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libsane1 using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libsane1

How To Uninstall libsane1 on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the libsane1 package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libsane1

Uninstall libsane1 And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libsane1 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libsane1

Remove libsane1 Configurations and Data

To remove libsane1 configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libsane1
