In this tutorial we learn how to install libsane on Kali Linux.

What is libsane

libsane is:

SANE stands for “Scanner Access Now Easy” and is an application programming interface (API) that provides standardized access to any raster image scanner hardware (flatbed scanner, hand-held scanner, video- and still-cameras, frame-grabbers, etc.). The SANE standard is free and its discussion and development are open to everybody. The current source code is written to support several operating systems, including GNU/Linux, OS/2, Win32 and various Unices and is available under the GNU General Public License (commercial applications and backends are welcome, too, however).

This package is here to ensure smooth upgrades. It can be removed when you see fit.

There are three methods to install libsane on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libsane Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libsane using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libsane

How To Uninstall libsane on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the libsane package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libsane

Uninstall libsane And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libsane and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libsane

Remove libsane Configurations and Data

To remove libsane configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libsane

Remove libsane configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove libsane configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libsane
