In this tutorial we learn how to install libroar2 on Ubuntu 18.04.

What is libroar2

libroar2 is:

RoarAudio is a server for audio mixing. Its main purpose is to mix audio from different clients before sending it to its outputs (for example a soundcard). It is completely network transparent (UNIX sockets, TCP/IP, DECnet) and supports many common codecs like Ogg Vorbis, Speex or FLAC.

This packet consists of the following libraries: libroar: The RoarAudio main library. It contains code for talking to roard, virtual IO functions useful not only for audio applications, memory management functions like buffers, lists, stacks.

libroardsp: Digital Signal Processing library. It contains code to work with PCM signals including simple filters, converters and code to work with some (realtime) codecs.

libroareio: This is the RoarAudio Extended IO library. It contains code for talking to extended IO. Currently it contains code to talk to soundcards without roard. This is not meant to be used by other applications directly.

libroarlight: Light Control support library. It contains code to support the usage of the light control subsystem.

libroarmidi: MIDI subsystem support library. It contains code to support the usage of the MIDI subsystem.

There are three methods to install libroar2 on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libroar2 Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libroar2 using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libroar2

Install libroar2 Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install libroar2 using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install libroar2

Install libroar2 Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libroar2 using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libroar2

How To Uninstall libroar2 on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the libroar2 package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libroar2

Uninstall libroar2 And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libroar2 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libroar2

Remove libroar2 Configurations and Data

To remove libroar2 configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libroar2

Remove libroar2 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove libroar2 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libroar2
