How To Install libreswan on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libreswan on Kali Linux.
What is libreswan
libreswan is:
Libreswan is an IPsec implementation for Linux. It has support for most of the extensions (RFC + IETF drafts) related to IPsec, including IKEv2, X.509 Digital Certificates, NAT Traversal, and many others.
Libreswan has been forked from Openswan 2.6.38, which was forked from FreeS/WAN 1.99.
The Libreswan IKE daemon is named pluto. It was inherited from the FreeS/WAN project, but provides improved X.509 certificate support and other features.
There are three methods to install libreswan on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libreswan Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install libreswan using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libreswanInstall libreswan Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install libreswan using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libreswanInstall libreswan Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install libreswan using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libreswanHow To Uninstall libreswan on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the libreswan package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libreswanUninstall libreswan And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libreswan and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libreswanRemove libreswan Configurations and Data
To remove libreswan configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libreswanRemove libreswan configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libreswan configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libreswanDependencies
