How To Install libpocl-dev on Ubuntu 18.04

What is libpocl-dev
libpocl-dev is:
Portable Computing Language is an open source implementation of the OpenCL standard which can be easily adapted for new targets. One of the goals of the project is improving performance portability of OpenCL programs, avoiding the need for target-dependent manual optimizations. A “native” target is included, which allows running OpenCL kernels on the host (CPU).
This package provides the development files for the pocl library. Unless very specific needs, this package is useless. This package is only required to link directly and explicitly with pocl.
To develop OpenCL programs (that can be run with pocl), the opencl-dev virtual package (provided by ocl-icd-opencl-dev for example) is required, not this one.
There are three methods to install libpocl-dev on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libpocl-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libpocl-dev using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libpocl-dev
Install libpocl-dev Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libpocl-dev using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libpocl-dev
Install libpocl-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libpocl-dev using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libpocl-dev
How To Uninstall libpocl-dev on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the libpocl-dev package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libpocl-dev
Uninstall libpocl-dev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libpocl-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libpocl-dev
Remove libpocl-dev Configurations and Data
To remove libpocl-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libpocl-dev
Remove libpocl-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libpocl-dev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libpocl-dev
