What is libpng15

The libpng15 package provides libpng 1.5, an older version of the libpng. library for manipulating PNG (Portable Network Graphics) image format files. This version should be used only if you are unable to use the current version of libpng.

We can use yum or dnf to install libpng15 on Rocky Linux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install libpng15.

Install libpng15 on Rocky Linux 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install libpng15 using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install libpng15

Install libpng15 on Rocky Linux 8 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install libpng15 using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install libpng15

How To Uninstall libpng15 on Rocky Linux 8

To uninstall only the libpng15 package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove libpng15
