How To Install libpnetcdf-dev on Ubuntu 22.04

What is libpnetcdf-dev
libpnetcdf-dev is:
PnetCDF is a library providing high-performance parallel I/O while still maintaining file-format compatibility with Unidata’s NetCDF, specifically the formats of CDF-1 and CDF-2. Although NetCDF supports parallel I/O starting from version 4, the files must be in HDF5 format. PnetCDF is currently the only choice for carrying out parallel I/O on files that are in classic formats (CDF-1 and 2).
In addition, PnetCDF supports the CDF-5 file format, an extension of CDF-2, that supports more data types and allows users to define large dimensions, attributes, and variables (>2B elements).
There are three methods to install libpnetcdf-dev on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libpnetcdf-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libpnetcdf-dev using apt-get by running the following command:

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libpnetcdf-dev using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libpnetcdf-dev
How To Uninstall libpnetcdf-dev on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the libpnetcdf-dev package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libpnetcdf-dev

To uninstall libpnetcdf-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libpnetcdf-dev

To remove libpnetcdf-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libpnetcdf-dev
Remove libpnetcdf-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libpnetcdf-dev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libpnetcdf-dev
