on Debian 10.
What is libpdal-dev
libpdal-dev is:
PDAL is a BSD licensed library for translating and manipulating point cloud data of various formats. PDAL can be used to read, write and translate point cloud data in many formats. Support is included for input files of LAS, LAZ, SBET, BPF, QFIT and others. PDAL can also read from and write to databases that support point cloud storage, including Oracle, Postgres and SQLite.
PDAL should not be confused with PCL (Point Cloud Library). PCL is a library specifically designed to provide algorithmic analysis and modification of point clouds. PDAL provides a limited interface to the facilities of PCL, but does not in general attempt to duplicate its capabilities.
This package contains the PDAL development files.
There are three methods to install libpdal-dev
on Debian 10. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libpdal-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libpdal-dev
using apt-get

After updating apt database, We can install libpdal-dev

sudo apt -y install libpdal-dev
Install libpdal-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libpdal-dev
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libpdal-dev
How To Uninstall libpdal-dev on Debian 10
To uninstall only the libpdal-dev
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libpdal-dev
Uninstall libpdal-dev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libpdal-dev
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 10, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libpdal-dev
Remove libpdal-dev Configurations and Data
To remove libpdal-dev
configuration and data from Debian 10 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libpdal-dev
Remove libpdal-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libpdal-dev
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libpdal-dev
