How To Install libpam-pwquality on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libpam-pwquality on Kali Linux.
What is libpam-pwquality
libpam-pwquality is:
libpwquality’s purpose is to provide common functions for password quality checking and also scoring them based on their apparent randomness. The library also provides a function for generating random passwords with good pronounceability.
This module can be plugged into the password stack of a given service to provide some plug-in strength-checking for passwords. The code was originaly based on pam_cracklib module and the module is backwards compatible with its options.
There are three methods to install libpam-pwquality on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libpam-pwquality Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install libpam-pwquality using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libpam-pwqualityInstall libpam-pwquality Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install libpam-pwquality using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libpam-pwqualityInstall libpam-pwquality Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install libpam-pwquality using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libpam-pwqualityHow To Uninstall libpam-pwquality on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the libpam-pwquality package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libpam-pwqualityUninstall libpam-pwquality And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libpam-pwquality and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libpam-pwqualityRemove libpam-pwquality Configurations and Data
To remove libpam-pwquality configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libpam-pwqualityRemove libpam-pwquality configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libpam-pwquality configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libpam-pwqualityDependencies
