How To Install libpam-oath on Ubuntu 18.04

What is libpam-oath
libpam-oath is:
The OATH Toolkit makes it easy to build one-time password authentication systems. It contains shared libraries, command line tools and a PAM module. Supported technologies include the event-based HOTP algorithm (RFC4226) and the time-based TOTP algorithm (RFC6238). OATH stands for Open AuTHentication, which is the organization that specify the algorithms. For managing secret key files, the Portable Symmetric Key Container (PSKC) format described in RFC6030 is supported.
This package contain a PAM module to authenticate users against a local file-based OATH database.
There are three methods to install libpam-oath on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libpam-oath Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libpam-oath using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libpam-oath
Install libpam-oath Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libpam-oath using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libpam-oath
Install libpam-oath Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libpam-oath using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libpam-oath
How To Uninstall libpam-oath on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the libpam-oath package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libpam-oath
Uninstall libpam-oath And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libpam-oath and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libpam-oath
Remove libpam-oath Configurations and Data
To remove libpam-oath configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libpam-oath
Remove libpam-oath configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libpam-oath configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libpam-oath
