How To Install libpam-net on Debian 12

In this tutorial we learn how to install libpam-net
on Debian 12.
What is libpam-net
libpam-net is:
libpam-net implements two pam modules:
pam_newnet.so: users belonging to the newnet group get a new network namespace at login. lo interface is down.
pam_usernet.so users belonging to the usernet group get their own network name at login. If a network namespace having the same name as the username exists, pam runs the user’s shell in that namespace. If such a namespace does not exist, it is created during the login process.
There are three methods to install libpam-net
on Debian 12. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libpam-net Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libpam-net
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libpam-net

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libpam-net
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libpam-net
Install libpam-net Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libpam-net
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libpam-net
How To Uninstall libpam-net on Debian 12
To uninstall only the libpam-net
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libpam-net
Uninstall libpam-net And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libpam-net
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 12, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libpam-net
Remove libpam-net Configurations and Data
To remove libpam-net
configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libpam-net
Remove libpam-net configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libpam-net
