How To Install libode-dev on Debian 9

In this tutorial we learn how to install libode-dev
on Debian 9.
What is libode-dev
libode-dev is:
ODE is a free, industrial quality library for simulating articulated rigid body dynamics - for example ground vehicles, legged creatures, and moving objects in VR environments. It is fast, flexible, robust and platform independent, with advanced joints, contact with friction, and built-in collision detection.
This package provides the header files and static libraries built with double precision, default in 64 bits platforms. In 32 bits platforms default is single precision.
There are three methods to install libode-dev
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libode-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libode-dev
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libode-dev

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libode-dev
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libode-dev
Install libode-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libode-dev
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libode-dev
How To Uninstall libode-dev on Debian 9
To uninstall only the libode-dev
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libode-dev
Uninstall libode-dev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libode-dev
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libode-dev
Remove libode-dev Configurations and Data
To remove libode-dev
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libode-dev
Remove libode-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
