How To Install libnss-nis on Kali Linux

What is libnss-nis

libnss-nis is:

This package provides a Name Service Switch that allows your NIS server act as a name service. This means providing user account information, group id’s, host information, aliases, netgroups, and basically anything else that you would normally get from /etc flat files.

This module was formerly part of glibc, but is now standalone to be able to link against TI-RPC for IPv6 support.

There are three methods to install libnss-nis on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libnss-nis Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libnss-nis using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libnss-nis

Install libnss-nis Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install libnss-nis using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install libnss-nis

Install libnss-nis Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libnss-nis using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libnss-nis

How To Uninstall libnss-nis on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the libnss-nis package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libnss-nis

Uninstall libnss-nis And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libnss-nis and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libnss-nis

Remove libnss-nis Configurations and Data

To remove libnss-nis configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libnss-nis
