In this tutorial we learn how to install libnids on CentOS 7.

What is libnids

Libnids is an implementation of an E-component of Network Intrusion Detection System. It emulates the IP stack of Linux 2.x and offers IP defragmentation, TCP stream assembly and TCP port scan detection. Using libnids, one has got a convenient access to data carried by a TCP stream, no matter how artfully obscured by an attacker.

We can use yum or dnf to install libnids on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install libnids.

Install libnids on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install libnids using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install libnids

Install libnids on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install libnids using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install libnids

How To Uninstall libnids on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the libnids package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove libnids
