How To Install libmed-tools on Ubuntu 18.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libmed-tools on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is libmed-tools
libmed-tools is:
MED-fichier (Modélisation et Echanges de Données, in English Modelisation and Data Exchange) is a library to store and exchange meshed data or computation results. It uses the HDF5 file format to store the data.
This package contains runtime tools for med-fichier:
- mdump: a tool to dump MED files
- xmdump: graphical version of mdump.
- medconforme: a tool to validate a MED file
- medimport: a tool to convert a MED v2.1 or v2.2 file into a MED v2.3 file
There are three methods to install libmed-tools on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libmed-tools Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libmed-tools using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libmed-tools
Install libmed-tools Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libmed-tools using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libmed-tools
Install libmed-tools Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libmed-tools using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libmed-tools
How To Uninstall libmed-tools on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the libmed-tools package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libmed-tools
Uninstall libmed-tools And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libmed-tools and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libmed-tools
Remove libmed-tools Configurations and Data
To remove libmed-tools configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libmed-tools
Remove libmed-tools configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libmed-tools configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libmed-tools
