How To Install libitsol1 on Ubuntu 18.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install libitsol1 on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is libitsol1
libitsol1 is:
ITSOL is a library of iterative solvers for general sparse linear systems of equations. ITSOL can be viewed as an extension of the itsol module in SPARSKIT. It is written in C and offers a selection of recently developed preconditioners. The preconditioner suite includes:
- ILUK (ILU preconditioner with level of fill)
- ILUT (ILU preconditioner with threshold)
- ILUC (Crout version of ILUT)
- VBILUK (variable block preconditioner with level of fill - with automatic block detection)
- VBILUT (variable block preconditioner with threshold - with automatic block detection)
- ARMS (Algebraic Recursive Multilevel Solvers – includes actually several methods - In particular the standard ARMS and the ddPQ version which uses nonsymmetric permutations)
Note that ITSOL is a scalar package. You may find parallel implementations of some of the preconditioners listed above in pARMS.
There are three methods to install libitsol1 on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libitsol1 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libitsol1 using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libitsol1
Install libitsol1 Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libitsol1 using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libitsol1
Install libitsol1 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libitsol1 using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libitsol1
How To Uninstall libitsol1 on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the libitsol1 package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libitsol1
Uninstall libitsol1 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libitsol1 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libitsol1
Remove libitsol1 Configurations and Data
To remove libitsol1 configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libitsol1
Remove libitsol1 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libitsol1 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libitsol1
