What is libimagequant

libimagequant converts 24/32-bit RGBA PNG images to 8-bit palette with alpha channel preserved. Such images are compatible with all modern web browsers and a compatibility setting is available to help transparency degrade well in Internet Explorer 6. Quantized files are often 40-70 percent smaller than their 24/32-bit version. libimagequant uses the median cut algorithm.

We can use yum or dnf to install libimagequant on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install libimagequant.

Install libimagequant on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install libimagequant using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install libimagequant

Install libimagequant on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install libimagequant using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install libimagequant

How To Uninstall libimagequant on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the libimagequant package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove libimagequant
