How To Install libhwloc5 on Ubuntu 18.04

What is libhwloc5
libhwloc5 is:
libhwloc provides a portable abstraction (across OS, versions, architectures, …) of the hierarchical topology of modern architectures. It primarily aims at helping high-performance computing applications with gathering information about the hardware so as to exploit it accordingly and efficiently.
libhwloc provides a hierarchical view of the machine, NUMA memory nodes, sockets, shared caches, cores and simultaneous multithreading. It also gathers various attributes such as cache and memory information.
libhwloc supports old kernels not having sysfs topology information, with knowledge of cpusets, offline cpus, and Kerrighed support
This package contains shared libraries.
There are three methods to install libhwloc5 on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libhwloc5 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libhwloc5 using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libhwloc5

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libhwloc5 using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libhwloc5
Install libhwloc5 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libhwloc5 using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libhwloc5
How To Uninstall libhwloc5 on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the libhwloc5 package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libhwloc5
Uninstall libhwloc5 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libhwloc5 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libhwloc5
Remove libhwloc5 Configurations and Data
To remove libhwloc5 configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libhwloc5
