How To Install libhwloc-common on Ubuntu 18.04

What is libhwloc-common
libhwloc-common is:
Hardware Locality (hwloc) provides a portable abstraction (across OS, versions, architectures, …) of the hierarchical topology of modern architectures. It primarily aims at helping high-performance computing applications with gathering information about the hardware so as to exploit it accordingly and efficiently.
libhwloc provides a hierarchical view of the machine, NUMA memory nodes, sockets, shared caches, cores and simultaneous multithreading. It also gathers various attributes such as cache and memory information.
libhwloc supports old kernels not having sysfs topology information, with knowledge of cpusets, offline cpus, and Kerrighed support
This package contains the XML DTD of the lstopo XML output.
There are three methods to install libhwloc-common on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libhwloc-common Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libhwloc-common using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libhwloc-common
Install libhwloc-common Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libhwloc-common using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libhwloc-common
Install libhwloc-common Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libhwloc-common using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libhwloc-common
How To Uninstall libhwloc-common on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the libhwloc-common package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libhwloc-common
Uninstall libhwloc-common And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libhwloc-common and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libhwloc-common
Remove libhwloc-common Configurations and Data
To remove libhwloc-common configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libhwloc-common
Remove libhwloc-common configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libhwloc-common configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libhwloc-common
