How To Install libgl1-mesa-dri on Kali Linux

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install libgl1-mesa-dri on Kali Linux.

What is libgl1-mesa-dri

libgl1-mesa-dri is:

This version of Mesa provides GLX and DRI capabilities: it is capable of both direct and indirect rendering. For direct rendering, it can use DRI modules from the libgl1-mesa-dri package to accelerate drawing.

This package does not include the OpenGL library itself, only the DRI modules for accelerating direct rendering.

There are three methods to install libgl1-mesa-dri on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libgl1-mesa-dri Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libgl1-mesa-dri using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libgl1-mesa-dri

Install libgl1-mesa-dri Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install libgl1-mesa-dri using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install libgl1-mesa-dri

Install libgl1-mesa-dri Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libgl1-mesa-dri using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libgl1-mesa-dri

How To Uninstall libgl1-mesa-dri on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the libgl1-mesa-dri package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libgl1-mesa-dri

Uninstall libgl1-mesa-dri And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libgl1-mesa-dri and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libgl1-mesa-dri

Remove libgl1-mesa-dri Configurations and Data

To remove libgl1-mesa-dri configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libgl1-mesa-dri
