What is libgdal-java

libgdal-java is:

GDAL is a translator library for raster geospatial data formats. As a library, it presents a single abstract data model to the calling application for all supported formats. The related OGR library (which lives within the GDAL source tree) provides a similar capability for simple features vector data.

GDAL supports 40+ popular data formats, including commonly used ones (GeoTIFF, JPEG, PNG and more) as well as the ones used in GIS and remote sensing software packages (ERDAS Imagine, ESRI Arc/Info, ENVI, PCI Geomatics). Also supported many remote sensing and scientific data distribution formats such as HDF, EOS FAST, NOAA L1B, NetCDF, FITS.

OGR library supports popular vector formats like ESRI Shapefile, TIGER data, S57, MapInfo File, DGN, GML and more.

This package contains Java bindings for GDAL/OGR library.

There are three methods to install libgdal-java on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libgdal-java Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libgdal-java using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libgdal-java

How To Uninstall libgdal-java on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the libgdal-java package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libgdal-java

Uninstall libgdal-java And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libgdal-java and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libgdal-java

Remove libgdal-java Configurations and Data

To remove libgdal-java configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libgdal-java

Remove libgdal-java configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove libgdal-java configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libgdal-java
