What is libfs-dev

libfs-dev is:

libFS, the Font Services library, provides various functions useful to X11 font servers, and clients connecting to font servers. It is not used outside of these implementations.

This package contains the development headers for the library found in libfs6. Non-developers likely have little use for this package.

There are three methods to install libfs-dev on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libfs-dev Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libfs-dev using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libfs-dev

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

After updating apt database, We can install libfs-dev using apt by running the following command:

Install libfs-dev Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

After updating apt database, We can install libfs-dev using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libfs-dev

To remove libfs-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libfs-dev
