What is libfm4

libfm4 is:

LibFM provides file management functions built on top of Glib/GIO, giving a convenient higher-level API.

Some features:

  • Desktop-independent, following FreeDesktop standards;
  • Fast, light on memory usage, and responsive - well suited to less powerful hardware such as netbooks and thin clients;
  • Uses GIO/GVFS (like Nautilus) for Trash support and access to remote file systems (FTP, SFTP, WebDAV, Windows shares, etc.);
  • Clipboard operations are compatible with GTK+/GNOME and Qt/KDE;
  • Supports both Drag-and-Drop, and the X Direct Save protocol;
  • Reusable design with the core functions separated out to simplify porting to other GUIs.

There are three methods to install libfm4 on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libfm4 Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libfm4 using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libfm4

Install libfm4 Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install libfm4 using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install libfm4

Install libfm4 Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libfm4 using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libfm4

How To Uninstall libfm4 on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the libfm4 package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libfm4

Uninstall libfm4 And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libfm4 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libfm4

Remove libfm4 Configurations and Data

To remove libfm4 configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libfm4

Remove libfm4 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove libfm4 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libfm4
