In this tutorial we learn how to install libfm on CentOS 7.

What is libfm

LibFM is a GIO-based library used to develop file manager-like programs. It is developed as the core of next generation PCManFM and takes care of all file- related operations such as copy & paste, drag & drop, file associations or thumbnails support. By utilizing glib/gio and gvfs, libfm can access remote file systems supported by gvfs. This package contains the generic non-gui functions of libfm.

We can use yum or dnf to install libfm on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install libfm.

Install libfm on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install libfm using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install libfm

Install libfm on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install libfm using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install libfm

How To Uninstall libfm on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the libfm package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove libfm
